Dear Friends

Have you ever realized that because of the excessive admission fees charged by school many parents cannot afford to send their children to school even of they wanted to?

CAMPE has been continuously advocating with the Policy Makers for making education affordable for all children. In this connection CAMPE together with BLAST filed a writ petition following a recent news reporting indicating that some of the renowned schools across the country are charging excess admission fees. A High Court Division Bench, directed the government and concerned authorities to show cause why their failure to investigate the imposition of excess school fees and charges from guardians in the form of donations, and its failure to prosecute and punish the schools and colleges doing so in violation of the Circular dated 14.12.2011 issued by the Ministry of Education, should not be declared to be unconstitutional, and a violation of the right to access to education.

ILD 2012

8 September has been observed as International Literacy Day (ILD) throughout the world since 1966. Like many other countries International Literacy Day 2012 was observed in Bangladesh at national & local level with various activities. This year’s theme of ILD is "Literacy and Peace".

Literacy is a fundamental human right. Literacy transforms people into conscious and responsible citizens. Literacy is a powerful tool to eradicate poverty and a strong means for social and human development. Literacy is the primary key to develop the growth of a logical and scientific mind. And thus it helps ensure peace in society and diminishes social tensions. To observe the event of ILD 2012 CAMPE organized a National planning meeting on 02 September with partners’ organization. In this planning meeting representatives from different organizations shared their planned programs to celebrate the day across the country.

At the national level CAMPE joined the main event of ILD 2012 organized by the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education. Representatives from CAMPE & its partner organizations participated the colorful rally and inaugural program held at the Osmani Memorial Hall, Dhaka. The Hon’ble State Minister Md. Motahar Hossain, Ministry of Primary and Mass Education (MoPME) graced the occasion as Chief Guest.
